PTO Volunteer Program
The SWE PTO has implemented a new program to help teachers, any way possible. Our goal is to help teachers where needed by providing extra sets of hands.

PTO volunteers will:

  • make copies
  • work in library
  • work on bulletin boards
  • stuff folders
  • anything teachers come up with!

The program began on 08/20/2007.  Volunteers work the following shifts:
Mondays 8 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Wednesdays 8 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Fridays 8 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

If you are able to work a set day every week or every month (ie 1st Wednesday of every month), please indicate that in your response to board@southwesternpto.org

Please make your response asap, if able to help.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., the PTO will be providing volunteers to supervise the additional AR testing for those teachers who would like to participate. As an AR volunteer, you can expect to do the following:

  • Escort students from their classrooms to and from the library.
  • Supervise the students during the testing. You cannot help them on the tests.
  • Supervise the students in the library when they are returning and checking out books
  • Ensure they are not being disruptive to others in the library
  • Provide encouragement and praise no matter what their test scores are

If you would like to be a part of this opportunity and/or have any questions, please contact the PTO at board@southwesternpto.org

Life Skills Class
Mrs. Barbieri, Life Skills, is in need of volunteers in her classroom.  She may need parents as various times during the day.  Please email Mrs. Barbieri at rbarbieri@swshelby.k12.in.us for more information.

Feelin' Good Mileage Club
The P.E. Dept. is implementing a walking program called the Feelin' Good Mileage Club.  The Mileage Club provides opportunity for all children, grades 1-6, to walk for fitness.  The Mileage Club  will be held during lunch recess (11:10-1:20) Monday-Friday.  Mr. Guidi needs volunteers who are willing to log each student's success throughout the year.  If anyone is interested in volunteering for the club, e-mail him at bguidi@swshelby.k12.in.us

Attention Chairpeople
The Committee Folders will be passed on from year to year so we can continue to improve and make things easier on ourselves.  This folder contains a Committee Planning Guide, budget information, reimbursement forms, SWE Calendar of Events, PTO contact information as well as list of volunteers who want to work on your committtee especially.  The Committee Planning Guide will help organize details on what has and hasn’t worked in past years, how much money was spent, and lists of contacts, donors, and volunteers.  Please return these to the VP at the end of your project.

Volunteer Opportunities
Please review the following list of opportunities for parents to get involved in building the PTO at our school.  The following are committees that need people with ideas, talents and energy.  You need not be available during the school day to help out.  Lots of the committee work can be done over the phone, via email and by splitting up jobs so everyone does a little.  (And NO ONE gets stuck with all of it)  Some only may take a few hours the whole school year, while others may take more.  If you have questions about one of the following or would like to do something not on this list, please email the board@southwesternpto.org or call Jodie Grube, VP at                317-729-5879         regarding how we can get you working for SWE PTO today!

Parents need to complete a Limited Criminal History Form in order to participate in programs. Please review the list below for opportunites that suit your interests.
