IDOE Summer Reading List

Summer offers a perfect time to read for pleasure whether relaxing at home or on vacation. An added benefit is that lots of reading during the summer helps a reader become a better reader.  This list provides lots of good choices for summer reading across all grade levels.

Box Tops Countdown!!

We need to receive as many box tops as possible by February 20, 2008. Box tops have to be submitted by the February deadline so that we may receive a check mid-April.

The Box Tops for Education website shows 29 families signed up in support of SWE. Email friends and family with the link to www.boxtops4education.com and ask them to sign up to support SWE.  All you need to do is go daily to the website and make a couple of clicks under promotion, and SWE will be entered to win 1,000 box tops, without buying or clipping a thing.  You can print COUPONS from this site as well.  They even email them to you as a benefit of signing up on the website.

Please continue throughout the year to clip and send in BoxTops, Campbells labels and various other items found under the Fundraising Tab.

Bonnie Adams is willing to email daily reminders to anyone interested.  Please email her at adamsbonnie@embarqmail.com

Why Should You Come To PTO Meetings?

You are a member of the PTO!
Each and every parent of a child in Southwestern Elementary School is a member of the PTO!  Your comments, questions or suggestions are always welcome.

We need new people and fresh ideas in the PTO!

Have new ideas or don’t like something that is happening with either the PTO or in the school? PTO is a great forum to talk about things.

Meetings are typically short, less than an hour, plus… interesting conversation.

Do you want to know where all your fundraising money goes?

SWE PTO raises over $14,000 each year.

Mrs. Swift's Class Platoon

Each SWE classroom's adopted a Platoon of deployed soldiers this year.  Some of the soldiers communicate with the teachers and class via email by sending pictures and telling them about their jobs.  Mrs. Swift's Platoon went above and beyond and sent her class the following note:

So that all shall know, this Indiana State Flag was flown in honor of Mrs. Swift's 3rd Grade Class above the maintenance offices of the Hardened Aircraft Shelter 213, located at Ali Airbase, Tallil Iraq.  It was flown by the Soldiers of Taskforce Dustoff - C & D Co. 2/238th Medevac, in the face of the enemy, illuminated in the dark by the light of justice, and bears witness to the removal of terrorist forces threatening the freedom of the United States of Ameria, Iraq and the World.  It was flown with great pride and honor, by the soliders providing direct combat support for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

SSG Steven L. Williams also wrote Mrs. Swift a note telling the class that the flag was flown on Christmas Day 2007.
